As a kid, his job was chopping firewood in Washington winters so his family wouldn't freeze.
As an adult, he designed the communication system that carries NASA astronauts to space.
Jacob was the oldest of 11 kids. His dad was a Baptist preacher, then a construction worker. They were poor.

In 2011, SpaceX came calling.
Initially, he didn't want an interview. He just wanted to tour the factory.
But as he walked the factory floor, saw rockets being built by hand, he couldn't walk away.
He got the job. And designed the entire Crew Dragon comms architecture from a clean sheet.
Today he's a YC-backed founder building Cascade Space: antenna arrays for lunar and deep space missions.
